Family Fun Night Updates

The final details of Family Fun Night are coming together!

Target on Merle Hay Road has donated pop and water for our concession stand.

Windsor Heights Hy-vee is providing pizza for the concession stand at a very nice discount.  We'll have pizza for $1.50 a slice.   Pop, water and popcorn will be $1 each.

Students can sign up for door prizes from Cold Stone Creamery, Scheels,Twork It Out Metabolic Training, Entourage Salon, and Samuelson Backpacks.

Buffalo Wild Wings will be participating in Fun Night by providing games, activities and prizes for the kids.  No wings or other yummy-ness but they might bring a special guest!  The restaurant supported our Fall Fundraiser by giving the PTO 10% of what our families spent at the restaurant.

Samuelson shirt orders are going home this week with students.  You can place your shirt orders during Fun Night.  We hope to have sample shirts for families to view during Fun Night.

Wristband pre-order forms were sent home with students this week.  You can pre-pay $5 for wristbands by filling out the order form and sending in to the office by March 4.  Look for the Pre-Order line at Fun Night to check in and get your band(s).

We still need volunteers to help from 7-8:15.  Please click on this link to sign-up or send an email to Samuelsonpto@gmail.com.

  1. My family attended the Fun Night with our second grader and I was sorely disappointed in the number of activities that closed early due to lack of volunteers. I have to wonder if it was because the only notification we received of the need was the week of the event? On a side note, I heard from my husband today as he picked up our child from school that the Book Fair was canceled because there were no volunteers. In this case, no notification was ever sent home with the students that I'm aware of that volunteers were needed. I'm just curious when there will be some real leadership on the PTO or at the very least someone that knows the ins and outs of event planning? You cannot ask people less than a week away from the event to take time off from jobs to volunteer for these activities. It's great and all that you seem to be updating people via this blog, but all I ever hear from the administration at Samuelson that there are too many families with little to no internet/email access so information cannot be relied on to be relayed this way. It's truly a shame; with more thought, these activities could have been so much more.

  2. Thank-you for your comments.

We too were disappointed that activities had to be closed. Starting in early January we began asking for volunteers in many ways. Sign-up sheets were sent home with students, information was posted here and on Facebook, emails were sent to the PTO email list and through the district's system, signs were posted in the building, and it was discussed at the monthly PTO buildings. If you have other ways the PTO can contact families (we do not have access to phone numbers unless families give us written permission) we'd be glad for those ideas.

The Book Fair was not cancelled during conferences. It was re-scheduled for the second date after the district cancellation. I'm not sure why he was given that information.
